My Story
My name is Bethlehem Temesgen Fleming. I came to the U.S. when I was 14 years old. Today, I am married with two teenage kids, a son and a daughter.
Life is good in the U.S. but like most of you … I miss home sometimes. However, because of all the Ethiopian and Eritereans in Atlanta, sometimes it feels a little like home. Since so many of us live in Atlanta, there are a lot of opportunities to get involved with our commuity. It is one of my true passions to get involved with our community and see us work together.
As you know, there are so many Habesha businesses in Metro Atlanta but very few of us know about them. Why is that? With this question in mind, I started thinking about what I could do to bring more attention to these businesses. Since nearly everyone has a cell phone these days, the answer was obvious. The internet. We are using the internet to connect back home but not using it to connect our community. It’s time we use the internet to connect our business owners with our community and Yenya is the way to do it.
After several months of debate, my husband and I made the decision to move forward with this venture. We appropriately came up with the name Yenya representing our community. This website will focus on our community which will include businesses, community announcements, health and education just to name a few.
I am so excited as we prepare to launch your website because I know that information is power. Working together and supporting each other is what makes our community stronger.
Thank you so much for visiting Yenya and please feel free to comment and give feedback so that we can grow … grow our businesses and grow our community.
We Are Stronger Together !
